Course Objectives
By the end of this course the learner will be able to:
- Understand the fundamentals of the Australian Privacy Act
- Identify who needs to comply with the Australian Privacy Act and why
- Know and appropriately use the basic terminology of the Privacy Act
- Identify and explain the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
- Understand the rights of the individual over their personal information
- Recognise the key players of the APP and their responsibilities
- Understand how an entity may obtain valid consent
- Know the changes introduced to Australian Privacy Act through the Privacy Legislation Amendment Act 2022
- Understand the Notifiable Data Breach(NDB) Scheme and eligible data breaches
- Explain the extraterritorial reach of the act and the implications for foreign entities
- Understand the role of the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in upholding privacy regulations
- Know the penalties for not complying with the Act
